New Teaching Collection

Support for Minerals Teaching Collection for ENI-ABT

In January 2021 Agate Project supplied the École Nationale d’Ingénieurs Abderhamane Baba Touré, Bamako, Mali with an extensive set of mineral samples to support their undergraduate teaching program. These mineral suites were assembled by the Geological Society of Australia Queensland Branch, whom we thank for their support. Additional information on these teaching collections may be found here.

Participation in Orogenic Gold Course

Support for 25 students to attend the course on Orogenic Gold System Analysis and Exploration Targeting, 30 Nov-3rd December 2020.

The course was aimed at geoscientists from industry, geosurveys and academia who desire a comprehensive understanding of established and modern concepts on orogenic gold system analysis and exploration targeting.

Students from Mali, Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Niger, Senegal and Togo were able to attend thanks to Agate support.

2020/21 Research Grant Announcement

The 5 candidates to receive funding are:

  • Yvonne Sena Akosua Loh for her project: Petro-structural, and hydrogeological characterisation of crystalline basement rocks of south-eastern Ghana: assessment of groundwater potentials.
  • Prince Ofori Amponsah for his project: Gold-bearing conglomerates, localized structures and alteration assemblages: Insight into the geological controls for the Paleoproterozoic Tarkwaian gold. A case study within the AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine, Tarkwa.Moulley Charaf Chabou for his project: The boundaries of the Central Atlantic Magmatic Province (CAMP) in the Saharan Atlas (Algeria) with some metallogenic aspects regarding this Province.
  • Abigail Ayikwei for her project: Geophysical investigation of paleo-geomorphic elements in the Voltaian sedimentary basin, central Ghana, and their economic potential.
  • Moulley Charaf Chabou for his project: The boundaries of the Central Atlantic Magmatic Province (CAMP) in the Saharan Atlas (Algeria) with some metallogenic aspects regarding this Province.
  • Mahamadou Diallo for his project: Synthèse tectono-magmatique et métallogénique de la Boutonnière de Kédougou-Kéniéba : Intégration de nouvelles données géophysiques et de terrain pour la modélisation 3D

After receiving 47 applications, of which 32 were eligible, we have produced a final list of 5 candidates to receive funding. We would like to congratulate them and look forward to hearing more about their research:

  • Petanki SORO, Université Félix Houphouèt-Boigny, for their project on the Bosumtwi teckite field ($AU5,000)
  • Obehi ATITA, University of the Witwatersrand, for their project on the reliable analysis of geophysical log data from boreholes ($AU5,000)
  • Miryam TESSIA, Université Félix Houphouèt-Boigny, for their project on the Non-conventional diamond deposits of Côte d’Ivoire ($AU5,000)
  • Koffi Evenyon KASSEGNE, Université de Lomé, for their project on  Studies carried out on phosphates in Togo ($AU5,000)

Participation in Basin-Hosted Mineral Systems Course

Support for 17 students to attend the course on Basin-Hosted Mineral Systems Course, 8 – 10 March 2021.

The course was aimed at geoscientists from industry, geosurveys and academia who desire to gain a better insight into the latest advances in basin-hosted base metals from various perspectives.
This three-day course will provide a comprehensive overview on basin hosted mineral systems in Australia and worldwide

Participation in Course on Critical Evaluation of 3D Geological Models

Support for 15 students to attend the course on Critical Evaluation of 3D Geological Models, 24-26 May 2021.

The course is aimed at geoscientists from industry, geosurveys and academia who desire to gain a better insight on the latest advances in 3D geological modelling, with a focus on regional-scale and hard-rock modelling.
